The Breeding of Oyster Mushroom , Pleurotus ostreatus

Abstract

|
This study was performed to investigate high yielding potential of Pleurotus ostreatus strains derived from intermating and intramating of three isolates: traditional strain, Nonggi 201, and one from Germany Pleurotus florida which was in doubt about the correct texonomical position. All the isolates were shown to have a tetrapola mating system, and hybridable. Intermating system showed more yield than intermating. The highest yield of fresh sporophores of oyster mushroom was abtained in Nonggi 201 crossed with Pleurotus florida, when cultivated on rice straw substrates.
